NEDA will host the 2011 USEF Para Equestrian Dressage National Finals and also an FEI Recognized event (CPEDI***), a qualifier for the para equestrian Olympics in London 2012. Para Equestrian Dressage is the only equestrian discipline that is included in the Paralympic Games, where it has been a regular fixture since 1996. These events create opportunities for all people with disabilities to compete and achieve their goals in equestrian sport.

About NEDA Fall Festival. NEDA’s Fall Festival is probably the largest dressage event in the United States, with an entry of almost 600 horses and a total purse of $48,000. It has been a NEDA “star production” since the early 1970’s when it was held in Framingham MA. Over the years it traveled to Groton MA, Hamilton MA, Stratham NH, Halifax MA and now to the world class HITS on the Hudson facility in Saugerties NY, where it runs simultaneously with the Marshall Sterling Hunter Jumper Finals. This facility features, for NEDA use, six competition rings and four warm ups with superior footing (redone in 2008) and 618 premier stalls, in new barns. Fall Festival features (1) sporthorse breeding classes on Tuesday afternoon, all day Wednesday and Thursday morning and (2) dressage classes, starting Thursday morning, from Training Level, the first step on the dressage ladder, to Grand Prix, the pinnacle of the sport as seen at the Olympic Games.
Fall Festival is produced by volunteers, both NEDA Show Management and “on site” volunteers. Assisting the NEDA volunteer staff is Centerline Events who is hired to provide the show office, with its sophisticated computer network, and the professionals who process the entries, provide the Head Scoring, run the Awards Ceremonies. Assisting NEDA for the Breed Show is Chesapeake Events who is hired to provide two professionals to manage the Breed Show Wednesday and Thursday. NEDA hires the Show Officials: sixteen judges, two announcers, two TDs, two FEI Stewards, two para equestrian classifiers, and FEI Veterinarian.
Be a Fall Festival Volunteer and Help Produce a Premier Event. Over one hundred NEDA volunteers are on site during the show, seeing to the details that make this a premier event. NEDA organizes runners, ring stewards, scorers, awards ceremony organizers , VIP hospitality hosts. Each volunteer working a full day is provided (gratis) buffet lunch with the other volunteers, the show officials, and office staff as well as (gratis) hotel lodging (double occupancy) at the Holiday Inn in Kingston. Fall Festival considers as Sponsors / Patrons those who contribute to the event: by advertising in the show program, by sponsoring classes or championships, by purchasing vendor and / or banner space, by purchasing placement of their flyer in the competitor packets, by purchasing sponsorship packages, or by providing product for class prizes. These Sponsors / Patrons, of all levels, are provided tickets for access to the VIP Pavilion which features covered seating and daily hospitality. The VIP Pavilion offers prime seating overlooking the main NEDA arena. The Joslin Diabetes Center Connection. In 2000 NEDA joined forces, through a NEDA Board member, with Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston. A portion of event profits are donated each year to Joslin. And NEDA is helping to provide diabetes awareness and education to the equestrian community. Established in 1898, 23 years before insulin was identified, Joslin has become the undisputed world leader in diabetic research, treatment, and patient and professional education. USDF Region 8 Championships. Within Fall Festival are the USDF Region 8 Championships sponsored by Great American Insurance Group, recognized by US Equestrian Federation. Riders qualify at recognized shows and come together at these championships to establish the Region 8 Champions. Thirty seven championships are awarded at Fall Festival, spanning Training Level to Grand Prix and musical freestyles, and for Junior/Young Rider, Adult Amateur and Open classifications. Championship classes will be held Thursday through Sunday, featuring freestyle championships on Friday and Sunday.
USEF Para-Equestrian Dressage National Championship. There will be classes Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings for para equestrian competitors. This is the first time this event has been held on the East Coast. There will be five levels of classes, depending on classification of riders. Awards will be presented Sunday afternoon.
CDI-W Y/J / CPEDI*** Saugerties. This event is one of the few internationally recognized American competitions recognized by the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI). CDI-W competitors earn scores toward representing their countries at competitions such as the World Games or the Olympics. Within the US, Fall Festival is a qualifying event for the 2012 USEF Grand Prix and Intermediate I Championships and for the US Grand Prix Freestyle Championship which selects the American representative at the annual FEI World Cup competition. Para Equestrian competitors earn scores toward competition at the 2012 Paralympics, following the Olympics in London next year.
On Thursday afternoon this International Competition begins with the formal inspection of the horses by FEI Officials, certifying their identity and their fitness to compete. Riders from Denmark, Israel, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Mexico, Canada and other countries will compete. Classes are held Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with the Grand Prix de Dressage on Friday and the crowd favorite Grand Prix Freestyle Saturday afternoon.
Sporthorse Breed Show. Thirdly, Tuesday afternoon, all day Wednesday and Thursday morning, in the Breed Show horses (from weanlings to stallions) are shown "in hand". There are special classes for Amateur Handlers, IBC classes for specific breeds of horses, and classes for ponies. This competition is a both a qualifier for and regional finals for the USDF Breeders Championship New England Series also sponsored by Great American. Finals classes will be held Thursday morning. The Ringside Hospitality Tent will feature Competitor Party Wednesday afternoon sponsored by Hof Mendenhall. All are invited: spectators, volunteers, competitors.
Open Dressage Show. Finally, Thursday through Sunday an Open Competition offers classes, Training Level to Grand Prix, for competitors who are not participating in either the Regional Championships or the CDI. These classes feature hundreds of local dressage competitors, amateurs and professionals, as well as riders who have competed at the Olympics, the FEI World Cup, the World Games and the Pan American Games. Within this competition, the Fall Festival Dressage Sweepstakes takes place, with final awards late on Friday late afternoon. On Sunday high scoring performers will be selected for the Adult Amateur Championships and the Junior/Young Rider Championships.
