Freestyle clinic - May 31 & June 1 - w/ Karen Robinson of Applause Dressage 0 A. Szepesi We are organizing a two-day Freestyle clinic with Karen Robinson on May 31 and June 1, 2014 before she heads up to the Bromont CCI3*.  The clinic will be held at Far Meadow Farm (12 County Road, in Morris, CT 06763).  Space is limited, so please email me (at: to confirm your wish to participate.Canadian Karen Robinson has been designing freestyles since 2000 and whether you are an FEI or First Level amateur rider, Applause Dressage can take you into the wonderful world of riding to music.  Karen has an extensive and varied music library, and provides choreography designed by someone who knows the sport from the saddle.  Karen brings enthusiasm and creativity to every freestyle she designs, whether the goal is the Olympics or a first freestyle experience at a local show.  Applause Dressage clients have included Olympians, World Cup and WEG finalists such as Bernadette Pujals, Ashley Holzer, Leslie Reid and Leslie Morse; NAJYRC Champions like Alex Duncan and Jade Deter;  and countless others of all ages from eight to seventy-eight, whose greatest horse show thrill has been enjoying the harmony and fun of riding their horses to music in front of an appreciative audience.  For more information, see:  www.ApplauseDressage.comClinic cost information:Rider rate – $105 per 45 minute session, plus share of travel costs and $25 ring fee to Far Meadow Farm.Auditor rate for 2-3 hour Lecture – depends on number of auditors that sign up to attend, but we hope no more than $30 per person.  Lecture will be held first thing on Sat. morning (and maybe also Sunday morning) depending on the interest.  No farm fee for auditors.  Limited capacity, so first registrations get priority. The clinic:Karen's freestyle clinics are designed to put as many tools into your hands as possible, so that you can design and ride your own freestyle. Some riders decide to have her finish the project for them, in which case the fee of the clinic is partially reimbursed through a 10% discount off the price of the full freestyle package (her rates can be found at  She tailors each session according to the skill level and goals of the horse and rider pair, but here is a rough idea of what you would achieve in a clinic.1.     The lecture (optional) – this session will take you through the entire design process, step by step.  She shows videos of freestyles from FEI and lower levels, to give you an opportunity to see what she is talking about. She also covers the ‘do and don’t’ aspects of riding freestyles and how to understand judges’ scores.2.     Day one mounted – by the end of the first day of the clinic, you will have ridden to a variety of types of music that would potentially work for your freestyle. You will probably have been quite excited by at least one of the music ideas, and may want to use that music in your freestyle.  Karen provides recording information on request so that you can go and find the music.  She also records your horse’s tempos at each gait, and you can take that information to use in assessing other music that might be suitable for a freestyle.3.     Day two mounted – by the end of the second day of the clinic, you will have at least a rough outline of choreography for a freestyle at your level. If things go smoothly and quickly, you may even have a complete pattern. If you are not yet ready to ride a freestyle, or you aren’t sure what your horse’s level will be when the time comes to do a freestyle, then the option is to spend at least part of the second day riding to music, with a smaller amount of time dedicated to teaching you how to choreograph according to your horse’s strengths and weaknesses.4. Day three mounted (optional – and to be determined based on interest levels -- we can achieve music selection and choreography in two rides; a third day is only recommended for FEI, particularly Grand Prix, level) As Karen says ... "If you want to dance with your horse, you are in the right place."There is limited capacity, so first registrations get priority.  Please email Gregor to take part, or if you want more information.  His address is:  gmcq66@aol.comWe hope to see you.  Enjoy the ride!  GregorGregor McQueen & Alix SzepesiCT Farm address:         Far Meadow Farm, 12 County Road, Morris, CT 06763CT mailing address:      PO Box 390, Morris, CT 06763Gregor's Email:    Alix's Email:                  Alix@NorthShoreDressage.comAlix's website:
