From the President ~ September already?!

Wow, it’s hard to believe it is September already! The summer flew by, as it always does in New England.

We were delighted to be able to continue the Summer Show in a new location this year. It is always challenging to change venues but Helen Cast and our wonderful group of volunteers stepped up to produce another great show. As there are more and more shows for riders to choose from we are finding our NEDA Spring and Summer shows provide a venue for people who cannot take multiple days away from their families and work but still want the satisfaction of competing at a recognized show that is well run and friendly. We are pleased to be able to provide that option for our members.

While we may mourn the loss of the longer days and warmth of the summer sun, we have plenty to look forward to in the autumn. The NEDA Fall Festival and USDF Regional Championships are just around the corner. We anticipate another great show this year and, as always, a need for lots of volunteers to help produce a show of this size and caliber. If you are interested in volunteering please reach out to Jennifer (Anttonen) Englund prior to the show, or go to the Fall Festival page on the website to find the volunteer forms on line.

We are excited to be hosting Carl Hester for the Fall Symposium. For a number of years when we asked the membership who you would like to see for a symposium you answered “Carl Hester”. It took several years to bring this event to fruition. There have been hundreds of hours spent planning and preparing for this event. When the tickets went on sale we held our breath wondering if the response would be as strong as we hoped. Our members did not disappoint. The ticket orders came pouring in starting at the stroke of midnight. The majority of tickets were sold in the first 48 hours.

There were over 100 applicants for the demo rider positions. We are extremely grateful to Lois Yukins and Sarah Geikie for pouring over the applications and videos and selecting the riders to be sent to Carl Hester for the final selection process. The goal is to get the riders who will best help to make this an extraordinary learning experience for everyone attending.

A very special thank you goes to Nicole Graf Ussher who made the connection to Carl Hester for us. Without Nicole this would not have happened. We also have a huge thank you to Beth Beukema for leading the Education team and spending countless hours pouring over every detail to make this event a success.

If you are one of the fortunate people attending the symposium please keep in mind that this is our biggest symposium yet and all of the work and organizing is done by volunteers. Please be patient and appreciative of all the people who have worked so hard to make this happen for our membership!

We will wrap up the season with the Year end awards banquet. The banquet will be held again this year at the beautiful Indian Ridge Country Club in Andover, MA. It is a wonderful time to get together without the pressure of competing or learning, and simply enjoy each other’s company and celebrate your success.

We look forward to seeing you at one or more of these exciting events!

Best,
Phyllis
