Wow, just wow! I am in awe of what a huge success the fall season has been for NEDA. All of which is made possible by our wonderful members and dedicated volunteers.

We started with the Fall Festival that just continues to grow in size and improve in organization every year. The weather may have been the warmest we have ever seen. We even had to waive jackets, which may be a first for the Fall Festival, but there was no rain!

Based on feedback from riders, show manager Beth Jenkins, changed the procedure for horses and riders attending and assembling for award ceremonies. The change helped eliminate the frustration of waiting lengthy amounts of time to get into the ring for your award ceremonies. It was a welcome change for the tired horses at the end of the show season.

There were a host of volunteers doing everything from running and scribing to ring stewarding. They were ably led by the team of Jennifer Englund, Helen Vandervoort and Amy Bresky. Thank you to all the volunteers for taking time from your busy lives to help make the show a success. The volunteers are the folks who keep the show running through rain and heat. Your contribution is very much appreciated by both the show management and the competitors! We couldn't do it without you!

Following hot on the heels of the Fall Festival was the incredible Fall Symposium featuring Carl Hester. It was everything we had hoped it would be and then some. Carl Hester was inspiring, providing us with the principles of true classical dressage training, always focusing on the basics. He kept us engaged through two solid days of education with his humor and charm while focusing on the critical issues to help each horse and rider improve their training. He taught in a way that was direct but kind and encouraging to both the horse and the rider.

The two years of planning done by the education team so ably led by Symposium Organizer Beth Beukema and Membership coordinator Jennifer Dillon, showed in every detail of the event. The support provided by the entire staff of Pineland Farms including Mike Poulin, Gwyneth McPherson and so many others was instrumental in making the event run so well. Everywhere you looked over the course of two days there were happy people. The auditors took advantage of the extra time before the symposium to attend seminars given by sponsors and do some shopping with the vendors. Even the weather cooperated allowing for picnicking on the lawns and enjoying the gorgeous autumn sunshine and changing leaves.

The horses and riders were all amazing, working hard to execute the instructions and so appreciative of the opportunity to work with Carl Hester. They did a lovely job demonstrating how even with the most spectacular horses and accomplished riders we can always improve our training using the basic principles of dressage.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the event and made it so successful! We hope that we will see Carl Hester back in New England in the future. If you haven’t renewed your membership yet be sure to do so soon. We don’t want you to miss keeping up to date with what is happening in the dressage community in New England!

Happy holidays!
