NEDA Fall Festival ~ A Stellar Event!

NEDA is once again hosting the largest American dressage competition September 18 / 19 / 20 / 21 at HITS on the Hudson in Saugerties NY. Well over 600 horses will compete in classes from Training Level, the first step on the dressage ladder, to Grand Prix, the pinnacle of the sport as seen at the Olympic Games.

Secondly, this event is one of the few internationally recognized American competitions (CDI-W Y/J Saugerties) where competitors earn scores toward representing their countries at the World Games, the Olympics and other international events.

Thirdly, the Sport Horse Breed Show features weanlings to stallions, shown in hand. There are special classes for Amateur Handlers, for specific breeds, and for ponies. New this year: a Three Year Old Prospect Award. On Friday morning winners will be selected for the
USDF Breeders Championship New England Series also sponsored by Great American.

Within this event are the Region 8 Regional Championships sponsored by the Great American Insurance Group and United States Dressage Federation.  These championship classes are qualifiers for competitors to compete at the National Dressage Finals at the Kentucky Horse Park in November.

Finally, a National Competition features hundreds of local competitors, amateurs and professionals, as well as riders who have competed international events.  Within this competition, NEDA sponsors the Fall Festival Dressage Sweepstakes, NEDA Adult Amateur Championships and the NEDA Junior/Young Rider Championships.

A large Equestrian Trade Fair will be held, featuring artists, horse supplies, boutiques, trailers. VIP Hospitality and Reserved Seating, featuring morning and afternoon refreshments, is available at the covered pavilion duration of Dressage Show.

Two “Open to All” parties will be held.  First, Thursday late afternoon at the Breed Show, Hof Mendenhall will once again sponsor a wine and cheese party while presenting the awards for the $5,400 New England Sport Horse Breeder’s Futurity. On Saturday early evening, The Equestrian Center at Pineland Farms, for the second year, will host the “Great Pumpkin” party in the VIP Pavilion, featuring judged Golf Cart Decorations and Hoola Hoop Contest. 

Some Adjustments For 2014
For the second year, NEDA will be using the entire grounds, using the “Front Stabling” first for early entries, and overflowing with later entries into the “Back Stabling”. A word of advice here: “Get your entry in early. Premier stabling and warm up classes for the championships fill up quickly.” We will keep the basic layout of rings and vendors, and the VIP will remain in the covered pavilion between the CDI and Regionals rings.

VIP Works Like a Charm. The NEDA Hospitality Team will continue to offer hot breakfast and lunch, wine and cheese in the afternoon, plus Grab and Go packages.  We sell reserved tables ($600 for duration of show) and individual seating ($100), adding more tables in 2014 as we were sold out last year. VIP will continue to offer two complimentary tickets for all who support the show by being a vendor, putting an ad in show program, sponsoring a class or other part of the show, hanging a banner, or providing gift certificates for class prizes.

Volunteer Perks Continue. NEDA will continue to provide free hotel (double occupancy), full breakfast and lunch for volunteers at the Garden Plaza Hotel in Kingston. Officials, due to continuing renovations at the Garden Plaza, will be housed at the Diamond Mills in Saugerties.

Moving Show Office to “Lower Grounds”.  In 2014 we will be bringing back the office trailer and park it where we parked it for several years, in the Lower Grounds near the VIP and the vendors. It will be the operating center for the Show Secretary, the computer system, scoring, volunteers and the posting of scores. We will be uploading scores every five minutes to the Internet, allowing competitors to access class standings during the show.

Awards and Show Manager in “Upper Grounds”. We envision handing out Awards in the permanent building closest to stabling, as we did last year. Awards will be able to spread out, separating Regionals from Open Show more conveniently. The Show Treasurer will be there, as will the Show Manager.  Then, there is a lounge area for judges and volunteers.

Vendors will Remain near VIP. Moving the Show Office to the area near the vendors will increase traffic to the “Lower Grounds” to see the Show Secretary, to sign in as volunteers, or to check scores as they are posted. We will also have night security for that area, easing the work load for vendors who felt that had to pack up their wares each evening.
