President’s Letter ~ September 2019

The NEDA Summer Show held at Apple Knoll Farm was a wonderful event.  Thank you so much to show manager, Paul Cormier, and the fabulous volunteers for producing a recognized show with such a friendly low-key vibe.  It was fun to see so many familiar faces going down centerline.  We are certainly grateful to Helen Cast for reviving the summer show and setting the welcoming tone for years to come.

It’s tough to see summer winding down.  However, there is so much to look forward to in NEDA this fall!  The Fall Festival is fast approaching featuring the Great American Insurance Group/USDF Region 8 Championships.  We are excited to experience the changes resulting from the new grounds layout.  It’s always challenging to adapt to change but this should make the show more “user-friendly” for competitors, spectators and all the officials.

NEDA is about more than competitions though.  Kicking off a full month of educational opportunities is the October 1st deadline for NEDA scholarships.  There are five different categories in which members may apply for scholarships: International, Professional, Amateur, Young Rider and Breeder.  All NEDA members can fall into one of these five categories.  You can visit the NEDA website to learn more but don’t miss the opportunity to apply!

Next in the October calendar is the the ever popular USDF “L” program which will again be hosted by NEDA, starting in October of 2019. Part I, three lecture and practice judging weekends, can be attended by anyone, but would be of most interest to potential dressage judges, dressage riders, trainers, instructors as well as those just curious about how dressage is judged. The program also serves as continuing education for “L” graduates and USEF licensed dressage judges.  There is room for up to 40 auditors and this is a wonderful way to learn what judges are looking for in competition, or to improve your training.

The highlight of NEDA’s educational programs for the year is the Fall Symposium featuring Dorothee Schneider, Olympic Gold Medalist, WEG Gold Medalist, and two-time German Champion.  We are thrilled to welcome Dorothee as she makes her U.S. teaching debut in New England at the 2019 NEDA Fall Symposium!

Dorothee’s career includes more than 15 horses that she trained to Grand Prix.  She is admired for her dedication to the proper development and training of dressage horses.   In addition to an accomplished record and experience as an international competitor, she will share a lifetime of breeding and training knowledge with our auditors and riders.  This is an event not to be missed!

You’ll find more information on all these events in the pages of theTip or on the NEDA website.  We look forward to seeing you soaking up knowledge and enjoying getting together with fellow aspiring dressage riders!

Best,

Phyllis
